FIFA 23 Icons: Premier League legend downgrade to FUT Hero

FIFA 23 is getting closer, and the news and rumours surrounding the upcoming game keep coming out. The latest unofficial announcement states that current idol Jay-Jay Okocha will be relegated to FUT hero in the next game.

Prolific leaker FUT Sheriff has announced that Jay-Jay Okocha is now listed as a FUT Hero in FIFA 23 Ultimate Team. The way he made the announcement, and the reactions of other leakers, suggested he wasn't the only icon likely to meet this fate. This may indicate that the EA is addressing a power curve change that made the low-end icon unusable.

As Donk pointed out on Twitter, changing it to make the icons mostly just the higher-rated players in the game should make them even more special again, which hasn't always been the case for him in recent years. However, with the number of promo players increasing, it's still hard to stay ahead in FIFA 23. Another reason for this leaked change could be related to the improved chemistry system in Ultimate Team that we're waiting to hear about.

If the new system changes the way icon cards are linked, people like Okocha with Nigerian nationality may find it difficult to provide strong links on the side. By making him a FUT hero card, presumably from the Premier League, maybe he'll be more useful for team building and thus see more games in FIFA 23?
