FIFA 23: According to the leak, Rudi Völler will become a FUT Hero

The FUT Heroes have been announced as a Marvel promo for FIFA 23 Ultimate Team (FUT), and Rudi Völler should also receive a superhero special card.

Ricardo Carvalho as The Anticipator, Yaya Touré as The Citadel or Ji-sung Park as Tigerheart - the first FUT Heroes for FIFA 23 are officially released. The FUT 23 promo becomes a crossover with Marvel, the ex-professionals are stylized into new superheroes. Rudi Völler, who resigned as sporting director at Bayer 04 Leverkusen last June, is also said to be on board. On the pitch, the former German national player was world champion in 1990, champions league winner in 1993 and top scorer several times – around 1982/1983 in the Bundesliga.

So far, Völler is just a leak that 'Fut Sheriff' has spread from time to time. Accordingly, it is not yet known which alter ego the former world-class attacker will receive from the Marvel animators. Or whether "Tante Käthe" will even appear as a FUT Hero in FIFA 23. Another ex-Bundesliga player should also be in the starting blocks: Euzebiusz Smolarek, who went on goal hunting for Borussia Dortmund from 2005 to 2007. Additional FUT Heroes leaks include Spaniard Joan Capdevila, Frenchman Jean-Pierre Papin, Dutchman Dirk Kuyt, Englishman Peter Crouch or Swede Tomas Brolin.

Völler's assessment as a FUT hero - and not as an icon - is debatable. After all, the former striker was one of the best professionals of his time. It can be questioned whether he is less relevant in the overall context of football history than compatriot and icon Michael Ballack. The position-related comparison to Hernán Crespo or Luis Hernández at least raises doubts. The same certainly applies to his alleged FUT Hero colleagues Diego Forlán, Lucio or Papin. The boundaries between heroes and icons, which were still quite reasonable in FIFA 22, seem to be blurring in FIFA 23.
