FIFA 22: 20 instead of 30 matches - FUT Champions and Division Rivals

FIFA 22 is changing the competitive formats FUT Champions and Division Rivals, new systems and fewer matches are the defining changes.

"More intuitive" and "more accessible" are the keywords for the objective of the restructuring within the competitive formats in FIFA 22 Ultimate Team (FUT). The Weekend League in particular was extremely time-consuming and demanding with its 30 weekly matches in just three days, said producer Azlan Mustapha at the latest FIFA 22 preview event - the system felt like an obligation. In the upcoming offshoot, FUT Champions will be a multi-level competition that is less restrictive in structure and should be knitted around the players' schedule. To achieve this goal, playoffs and finals are implemented.

Through Division Rivals games, qualification points can be collected that lead to participation in the playoffs - the hurdle should not be too high. EA SPORTS would like to make the playoffs available during the week so that all players have the chance to qualify for the finals. A certain number of points has to be obtained in a limited number of playoff games - "Score instead of win" is the motto. The finals, on the other hand, will be concentrated on the weekend, but the starting time should be flexible. Mustapha describes the finals as "the new Weekend League format that uses the best part that the players are already familiar with". The number of games to be played each week will be reduced, 30 matches should probably become 20. It can be assumed that the rectification of the deadlines will be positively received by the community. In addition to the process, the rewards will also be changed.

The reward structure is to be refined through a point system both in the playoffs and in the finals. More collected counters also result in better rewards, but more detailed information has not yet been communicated. FUT Champions should go hand in hand in the context of playoff qualification with Division Rivals, which are also facing major changes. First and foremost, there is the desired seasonality with a "brand new progress system". The motivation should be kept high by playing times lasting several weeks, which are based on the FUT season. Mustapha emphasized the anticipation of a coming season or the tension at the end. The rewards will continue to be distributed weekly, but also after a game time has expired. And in future，the best rewards will be in the Elite Division. This replaces Division 1 as the highest class and, unlike the lower divisions, will have skill ratings.
